Riwia Brown has been involved with Maori Theater in Wellington since the early eighties. Her first play premiered at The Depot Theatre in Wellington in 1998 and was later adapted and directed by her for television. She continued to write successfully for theater and in 1994 adapted Alan Duff’s novel Once Were Warriors into an acclaimed film. Since then she has worked on several nation and international film and television projects as well as having a further two plays produced. Brown was a member of the board for the New Zealand Film Commission, and a consortium who produced six short films. She has worked as a script consultant, and has run writing workshops nationally and internationally. Brown was awarded an ONZOM for her contribution to stage and film. This is her foray into writing and directing Animation.

Phill has animated a number of award-winning short films including A Very Nice Honeymoon and Noise Control which have screened in film festivals including the Palm Springs Int. Short Film Festival, Sukagawa Int. Film Festival and the Chicago Int. Childrens' Film Festival. In 2006 he won the SPADA new filmmaker of the year award along with his brother Jeff. His company Simmonds Brothers Animation Ltd produces distinctive animations for government departments and corporate communications. He has also produced a number of Maori language 'reomations' for Maori TV, Huia Publishers and the NZ Ministry of Education.
